German Retail Prize: Albrecht Hornbach receives Lifetime Award

Berlin, November 17. The German Retail Federation (HDE) awarded the 2021 German retail prizes on Wednesday evening at the German Retail Congress in Berlin. The HDE’s President, Josef Sanktjohanser, conferred the Lifetime Award on Albrecht Hornbach.

From the HDE’s press release:

With the Lifetime Award, the German Retail Federation has honored the outstanding business achievements of Albrecht Hornbach, proprietor of the eponymous DIY store chain. Founded in 1877, the group of companies is now one of the leading players in its sector. Albrecht Hornbach has shaped his company with great innovative vision and remarkable personal commitment. By listing the company on the stock market at an early date, the family entrepreneur laid foundations for its international expansion. Not only that, Albrecht Hornbach has consistently and successfully implemented an interconnected retail strategy, which closely interlinks stationary and online channels. A strong commitment to the company’s staff and its home region have long formed part of Hornbach’s tradition. Alongside a variety of voluntary engagements in business organizations, the winner of the 2021 German Retail Prize has also supported people close to the company in cases of hardship, bereavement, and severe illness via the Hornbach Foundation “People in Need”. And during the coronavirus crisis, Hornbach has protected its staff while at all times clearly focusing on its customers by acting early to implement effective hygiene concepts at the company and its stores.
