The HORNBACH Group companies focus on DIY, garden, and home improvement retail. 

HORNBACH Baumarkt AG operates DIY megastores with garden centers and online stores in nine European countries. The do-it-yourself (DIY) retail segment accounts for around 93 percent of consolidated sales. Around half of these sales are generated in Germany. HORNBACH Baumarkt AG is also present in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. With net sales of around Euro 5.8 billion (2022/23), HORNBACH Baumarkt AG is the fifth-largest DIY retailer in Europe.  

Thanks to its organically grown homogeneous store network – predominantly with sales areas of more than 10,000 square meters – HORNBACH benefits from economies of scale in the operation and conceptual development of its stores, as well as in its group logistics. Measured in terms of productivity, HORNBACH is by far the No. 1 DIY retailer in Germany in terms of sales per square meter of sales area. 

HORNBACH combines its stationary retail business in all countries in its business region with online stores and a virtual advisory offering for DIY multi-channel retail (Interconnected Retail, or ICR for short). With an online share of around 15 percent of total sales (including Click & Collect), HORNBACH is the market leader in DIY interconnected retail. 

The product range on offer at HORNBACH’s DIY stores and garden centers encompasses an average of around 50,000 articles stocked at its stationary stores and up to around 260,000 articles available online. Products are available in five divisions:

As well as DIY stores and garden centers, HORNBACH Baumarkt AG also operates specialist stores for flooring under the BODENHAUS brand.

With its very broad selection of tiles, parquets, laminates, vinyl, and decking, this specialist retail concept chiefly targets commercial tradespeople but also meets the needs of private customers wishing to lay floors themselves or have them laid. Unlike at traditional specialist retailers, at BODENHAUS nearly all products are directly available in large quantities or can be reserved or ordered via the online shop. The concept is augmented by various additional services, such as delivery of the material to the construction site, a proprietary design center, and rubble disposal.

The HORNBACH Group’s retail activities are supplemented by its regional activities in the builders’ merchant business, which are pooled at the HORNBACH Baustoff Union GmbH Subgroup.

This enables the HORNBACH Group to benefit from growth potential in the construction industry. Its main target group involves commercial customers in the main and secondary construction trades. HORNBACH Baustoff Union offers these customers construction materials and tools, which are both stocked and supplied, as well as services and professional advice for all major product ranges and lines of trades. Products range from shell construction to roofing, from interior fittings to facades, and from civil engineering through to garden and landscape construction, with all products available for new construction, conversion, or refurbishment projects. Furthermore, with its construction materials, services, and advice HORNBACH Baustoff Union also targets the needs of private construction clients.
