Once again, the HORNBACH Group publishes its non-financial report.

HORNBACH Sustainability Magazine

With the Sustainability Magazine, HORNBACH brings the topics of the Non-financial Group Report to life and tells stories from the company.

As key drivers and sponsors of the issues involved, Albrecht Hornbach and Susanne Jäger are the points of contact when it comes to sustainability at the HORNBACH Group. For these two members of the Board of Management, economic efficiency, environmental awareness, and a commitment to society are not mutually exclusive, but rather complementary objectives.

Responsibility for the Environment

What is often referred to colloquially as sustainability is for HORNBACH simply a matter of responsibility. In times of global warming and the energy turnaround, we aim to make our contribution towards caring for our environment.

FSC® Chain of Custody certificate

To meet our customers’ expectations here while also doing justice to our own commitment to sustainability, in 2007 HORNBACH became the first international DIY chain to be awarded the FSC^® Chain of Custody certificate GFA-COC-002007 / FSC^® C010062.

New approach to plant protection

With several measures, HORNBACH aims to support customers in keeping their gardens as natural as possible and reducing any risks to human beings or the environment.

Recycling concept

Given the increasing scarcity of resources, a commitment to the environment in today’s world would be unthinkable without recycling. A special waste concept is part of HORNBACHs strategy.

CSR system for early risk identification

Working in cooperation with the Austrian startup Sophiesystems and the University of Vienna, HORNBACH has developed a so-called CSR map.

HORNBACH builds on healthy living

Consumers’ sensitiveness towards contaminants in the air and in products has increased sharply. DIY enthusiasts and construction clients are paying increasing attention to the composition of the materials used.

Energy and Climate

Saving energy is also a very important topic at HORNBACH. In recent years, we have successfully implemented several energy-saving projects at our HORNBACH DIY megastores and garden centers.

Logistics: combining efficiency with environmental protection

HORNBACH is also making a contribution towards protecting the environment with the work performed by its logistics centers. In its logistics activities, the Group continues working on reducing its CO2 emissions.

Responsibility for our employees

Employees are the greatest source of potential at any company. HORNBACH creates large numbers of new jobs every year, and that both in Germany and abroad.

Key focus on employee satisfaction

The success of the HORNBACH Group is closely linked to the competence and motivation of its employees. Their willingness to roll up their sleeves, and thus continually improve the Group's earnings, is honored by our bonus model and several other incentives.

Personnel development: everyone can become everything

This motto is the principle underlying the development of specialist and management staff at HORNBACH. The company only trains the staff it actually needs and prefers to recruit its managers from among its own staff where possible.

Quality promise

Numerous requirements have to be adhered to when trading and selling products. We have introduced a number of measures to comply with these legal requirements and to offer high-quality, safe products to our customers.

One core aspect of our value chain at HORNBACH is the origin of our products. Here, we focus on people and the environment.

At HORNBACH, we believe that success is something to be shared. That is why we pass on part of our business success to society.

Memorial for victims of National Socialism

The HORNBACH Group, which has owned the barracks property – now known as Quartier Hornbach – since 2001, was aware that this circumstance required a special approach.

Committed to the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region

As a member of the Rhine-Neckar European Metropolitan Region, our Group is helping to promote our region. The aim is to promote the region’s attractiveness, power of innovation, and economic strength and to communicate these qualities to the outside world.
